Sisyphus and His Rock

He isn't holding the weight up, he's holding it again. The sphere will not stay balanced any more than the boulder ever stayed at the summit; Sisyphus's punishment was never the weight, it was the repetition, the knowing, each time, that the work undoes itself the moment it's finished. And yet here we are, just like him, shoulders set, still lifting. That is life's most lamentable provocation.
