Memory doesn't keep things, it rebuilds them, a little differently than they actually were, every time you reach for one. This is what that looks like held still: a family gathered inside a shape too whole to be entirely true, closer and warmer than the moment probably ever was. Nostalgia isn't dishonest on purpose; it just can't help softening what it touches, rounding off the edges until what's left is easier to love than it was to live.
